We had a little birthday party for Raina on Tuesday, a few days before her birthday, because Grampa A. and Great Gramma A. won't be in town on her birthday. We did a Chinese 1st birthday tradition where the baby is presented with a bunch of different objects that represent future careers or interests, and she chooses one for her future career! We put lots of things on a tray...a book (scholar), pencil (writer), maraca (muscian), leaf (something outdoors), thumb drive (computers), birdie (athlete), scissors (artisan), spatula (cook), stuffed leopard (vet), calculator (math or finance), and a dollar bill (wealth). Here's Raina choosing her career. We spun the tray around so she could get a good look at everything before deciding.
She's going to be a musician! After she decided, we let her play with all the other objects on the tray. She picked the leopard next. Maybe she'll have lots of pets! Sunday is Raina's real birthday. We are going to open presents and take her to the playground. We were going to go to the beach, but it is only going to be 65 degrees!

Well at least music runs in the family. :-)
oh my, she looked so confused. She was probably wondering why you kept spinning all that stuff she could of been playing with.
